The NGAA Catalina II Civilian Variant is an unpressurized, hulled, amphibious flying boat capable of operations in up to Sea State 2. The Civilian Variant offers unmatched performance and capability over Small Category (under 12,500 pounds) "float converted" land planes and rotorcraft platforms currently employed in the transport of passengers and cargo to / from traditional airports as well as remote locations not supported by traditional airport infrastructure.
The NGAA Catalina II is a Large, Transport Category amphibious flying boat capable of operation from runways, grass, dirt, sand, lakes, rivers, bays, and open water utilizing green energy power initiatives.
Utilizing a newly designed turboprop engine with 15-20% better fuel efficiencies over existing older design turboprop engines, the Civilian Variant has a range of up to 1525 Nautical Miles operating on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Other green energy power options can also be considered at the customer's request.
With cruising speeds of up to 185 Knots, the Civilian Variant can deliver more passengers and more cargo to remote locations faster than any "float converted" land plane or rotorcraft.
The Civilian Variant has a Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW) of 32,000 pounds. The forward and aft cabins have been enlarged and can support configurations to include:
- Up to 34 passengers and luggage with side and / or rear airstairs available
- Up to 12,000 pounds of internal cargo with dual cargo doors available
- Up to 2 under wing mounted dinghies
A unique feature of the legacy Catalina is the certification to carry two under wing dinghies for use at remote locations where docks or a beach head to taxi up onto are not available. This same capability will be available on the NGAA Catalina II Civilian Variant.
A "straight" flying boat version of the NGAA Catalina II Civilian Variant is available for those customers who wish to further improve useful load through the weight elimination of the retractable landing gear.
The Civilian Variant is constructed using modern corrosion resistant materials, assembly practices and supportability initiatives to ensure the Material Availability and Operational Availability (Ao) remains at the highest rates possible. Many existing and proven in-service systems are employed to minimize logistics footprint growth and provide for commonality of components between the NGAA Catalina II and existing / emerging in-service aerial platforms.
The Civilian Variant is a new production amphibious flying boat based on the design fundamentals of the legendary Transport Category, Standard Airworthiness, 28-5ACF Catalina, which to date has ZERO airframe Airworthiness Directives (ADs). Truly a testament to the Catalinas robust design! Unlike "float converted" land planes, the NGAA Catalina II is designed specifically for operations in ever changing maritime conditions. Some of our safety features include:
- Hulled fuselage amphibious flying boat with no "float conversion" struts to fail
- Retractable wing tip floats
- Dual ultra wide, 4 segment, touchscreens
- "Dark Cockpit" Pilot Vehicle Interface (PVI) to reduce Pilot workload
- Landing gear / float selector interlocks to prevent inadvertent dual deployment
- Single lever engine / propeller controls
We are pleased to announce the decision to formalize a production re-start program and we are now accepting pre-orders as well as formal orders for the NGAA Catalina II Civilian Variant.
